IMITATIONS MADE IN 1830 - 40

Around 1830 are reproposed again the first virtualistic imitations of forms and techniques of the past; compared to the originals they are characterised by a certain mechanical harshness of the design and the performance.

The reign of Napoleon III (l852-70) is characterised by a national prosperity, encouraged from industrial development and export. The "Napoleon III style" and "empress Eugenia" spread rapidly. For the interiors the furniture-makers take again all previous french styles up to Luigi XV, with a predilection for the fashion of Antique, for the neo-Greek and the Pompeian raising a continuity with the previous style of Luigi Filippo.

During this period happens the triumph of all the styles and tecniques often associated in beautiful pastiches.
It reappears the inlay with hard stone, traditional of the renaissance and baroque period; in good quality furniture it reappears: the inlaid Boullé, the eighteenth century marquetry, abundance of bronzes, porcellain plates of Sevres-Limoges, painted glasses, ivory and tortoise.

The walnut-wood and the other dark woods are carved and well-shaped in the manner of Renaissance.
It has to be noticed that around 1860-70 there was a certain impoverishment of stylistic and architectural ideas, and the craftsmen at the time proposed everything that was antecedent again (this does not mean that in Napoleon III period there were not talented craftsmen, on the contrary many of them reproposed those styles with great merit, as to came out from anonymity, for example Sormany, and many others). This event took place all around Italy and abroad.
